  • Group of friends

A nice country inn with excellent food (breakfast, lunch and dinner) and good beer. Well located for the Brecon Beacons, Tintern Abbey, Hay-on-Wye, Abergavenny, etc. Very helpful and friendly staff. Well kept hotel with reasonable size car park.

The matresses are too soft for my liking. The staff were very helpful in letting me try several rooms but the matresses were all the same. They put boards under the matress but this was of limited effect. Only limited channels on TV in my room although other rooms have digiboxes, so I was told. As I booked one of the more expensive rooms I thought it would have had a digibox too.

  • Single

Very good service in an unspoilt traditional setting.

  • Group of friends

Efficient and friendly. Traditional charm and excellent bar food.We went on a walking trip, so location was perfect for numerous hill walks.

Allowing dogs in the bar area where food operation is the main attraction.

  • Older travelers

Historic comfortable and easy to find.Good menus and very helpful staff.Room well presented.

    Breakfast room a little cramped.

  • Older travelers

A great "feel" - relaxing and welcoming. Excellent room and very good room service. Breakfasts were very good with excellent coffee! Meals in the bar were first class in a good atmosphere. Very good in meeting the requirements of my wife's gluten free diet.

Car parking was difficult because of the cramped layout available and the popularity of the place around mealtimes!

  • Group of friends

The food at the hotel was of a high quality and you seem to have got the portions just right....we hate wasting food!

We thought the hotel room we stayed in at £99.00 per night was too expensive. The bathroom was tiny and the bedroom dark and small. We have stayed in better equipped hotel rooms at a much more reasonable cost.

  • Older travelers

Hotel is beautiful and full of interesting features.

The food is amazing there, the only thing we would say is that its a shame they go to so much effort with the food and then cook frozen chips?

  • Older travelers

Food, beer and wine extremely good.

    Decoration just starting to fade.

  • Older travelers

Relaxed, professional service, friendly staff, excellent food, great location. So good we stayed an extra night

  • Single

A very traditional hotel in a beautiful location. Ideal for exploring the Brecon Beacons and Black Mountains.

  • Older travelers

Food and drink (real ale) in bar was very good. Breakfast was freshly cooked with good choice (unusual to see fish on menu these days but welcome!). Room with four poster had character.

Looks tired and could do with some refurbishment. Room had two non functioning lamps and a broken rocking chair (dangerous if you tried sitting on it). Bathroom had non functioning light above wash basin.

  • Older travelers

We were just staying overnight but the welcome was good, the room clean and the evening meal was superb. Breakfast was also excellent and the staff were attentive.

The hotel was a bit oldie worldie in decor but this was not off putting.

  • Older travelers

would most definately stay again, decorated to a very high standard and recommend this fine hotel

  • Couple

We really liked the room we had - decor was gorgeous and the bed was the most comfy bed we've ever had in a hotel! Bathroom/ensuite was lovely - clean and with all mod-cons.

  • Older travelers

The owner of the hotel is very professional and friendly. The hotel is comfottable and relaxed. Food is very good.

The room we last stayed in (No. 2) was extremely noisy, with lorries, etc. revving engines outside the bedroom window from before 6 o'c. Not nice.
